JOE & VALERY in Bratislava | Restaurant review.

As I mentioned in my last blogpost - there is a top restaurant recommandation for you. On the way from the train station to the historic district we discovered the Joe & Valery patisserie. We read the menu and instantly decided to have lunch there.

Next to the breakfast options (omlette, bagel, croissant (which are pretty oversized ;)) they also have delicious first and main courses. Hummus with veggies, soups, salads, burgers and curry. They offer a wide range of delicious sweets and coffe as well.

TOP.

First course: Hummus with veggie sticks. It wasn't just pretty - it also was very delicious and you could instantly taste, that the hummus was fresh and selfmade. TOP.

Hauptspeise: SALAT mit frischem Gemüse und TOFU. & JOE's BURGER mit Spiegelei, Speck, Käse und Rindpatty.

Main Course: Salad with fresh vegetables and TOFU. My boyfriend had "Joe's Burger" with fried egg, bacon, cheese and beef patty.

Not only the food was amazing - the interior design impressed me as well. Totally my style. Everything modern and simple furnished with cool pictures and decorated with beautiful details.

BRATISLAVA. | travel - diary.

This week we made a day-trip to Bratislava. We arrived at noon and found a little café/restaurant on the shopping street. Joe&Valery. We looked at the menu and I instantly was amazed because everything sounded to delicious. Also: I fell in love with the interior design. Beacause the restaurant made it into my top 3 I will write an extra blog post about it ;)

After lunch we went to the historic district. The historic district is my favorite place in cities most of the time. We walked by a lot of stylish coffee shops (Urban Bistro - pictures below), restaurants, little shops, Michaelertor, churches and the town hall. Afterwards we went into the mall "Eurovea". (there are shops like Marcs&Spencer, next, Reserved etc.). In the end of the day we enjoyed a traditional beer at the Donau river. ;)

Have you been to Bratislava? If yes, what did you like the most?

JOMA. | Café - Brasserie - Bar. | Vienna.

If you are looking for a restaurant in the historical district of Vienna that offers viennese classics but also exeptional but at the same time healthy dishes like a Superfood Bowl (with taboulé,avocado, figs, cranberries..) I can highly recommend JOMA.
I have already known the restaurant JOMA because I had breakfast there a few month ago. I liked it a lot , so I checked the lunch menu and instantly loved what I read. Luckily it was a beautiful day so we could sit outside. On the menu you find everything the heart desires– from soups and pasta to burgers and desserts. There is something for everyone. The Avocado-Papayasalat, and Vegan Sweet Potato Burger and the Veggie Macchia Flammkuchen sounded so delicious. In the end I chose the 'Flammkuchen/tarte (with rocket, figs, ricotta and sweet potao fries to go with it (I have a sweet potato fries addiction so I couldn’t resist).  They also have a great variety of vegetarian dishes, which - as a vegetarian myself - found really cool. All of their desserts sounded heavenly but we decided to grab some frozen yoghurt afterwards so we could somehow resist. All in all, it was a perfect and delicious meal, the service was good and considerate and the quite upscale prices were okay in terms of quality and the location.

Flammkuchen (Ricotta, Feigen und viiiiiel Rucola)

Where? Hoher Markt 10-11, 1010 Wien.

SWING KITCHEN. | Swing to vegan. | Vienna.

For the most time in my life, I have been eating mostly vegetarian, I wasn't a great meat eater at all. I have been raised that way. At such a young age it is impossible to understand every aspect about it neither the reasons behind it. As I grew older (during the last four years in particular) I thought about what I'm really eating and what is good for my body. I lived by a healthy "diet" without extreme restricitons. I was happy and I felt good with it. Lately, I started getting highly interested in veganism. I now live about 70% vegan. I didn't do it overnight, it happened step by step. It is definitely NO restricting and NO quitting on any good food (as many people would call it). One should personally choose a vegan nutrition and see (& feel) the positive effects for themselves. :)

This leads me to my actual blog post today. A restaurant review. I strolled through instagram and found the "Swing Kitchen" in Vienna (Schottenfeldgasse 3, 1070 Wien). Irene and Charly Schillinger are running the vegan burger restaurant. SWING TO VEGAN is their motto. Other great concepts of them are : Fair trade, fair wages and no plastic used! The Swing Kitchen offers vegan burgers, awesome sides (pommes, vegan nuggets, onion rings, salad), wraps, fairtrade coffee, refreshing drinks and vegan sweets.

Sounds absolutely amazing to me!! And now that I've done my research I'll go and have a look by myself. I'm so excited. :) Can't wait to report.

You order at the register and wait till your food is ready - we waited about 4-6 minutes :)
I loved their interior! Simple and modern.

we ordered the "Swing Burger" menu (+fries and drink)
It was very tasty and we definitely had a full stomache afterwards.:P I'm not so sure if the Swing Burger would be my favorite - so I'm looking forward on trying an other one soon!! :)

3 days BUDAPEST.

BUDAPEST. Capital and largest city of Hungary. Divided into Buda and Pest. Beautiful architecture and streets. More or less I knew about this city when we arrived.

13:00 : We travelled to Budapest by train (Budapest Kéleti) and bought a metro ticket to go to our Hotel. A single ticket costs 350 HUF (~ 1,20€). The metro system in Budapest is easy to understand and you can get around very fast. After arriving at our hotel, we explored the neighbourhood a bit. We saw a lot of cool restaurants and cafés we wanted to check out. We decided to walk along the big shopping street, where we discovered a little market. The only shop we were excited to go was Stradivarius because we already knew the others from our hometown.
Afterwards we walked along the Danube River and crossed the Kettenbrücke. On this side you have the opportunity to go on the Burgberg by the funicular railway called Budavári Sikló. We decided to walk (because we were so motivated…..:P) On the top you have a beautiful view over the city. As we went along we discovered a little “village” with many restaurants, cafés, museums and churches.

Our hotel was located in a small street, therefore it was very peaceful. We were also very lucky to have a little balcony. The room was bright and the furniture was very modern and elegant. We felt very comfortable in our room.

20:00: After our little adventure on Burgberg we decided to go to an Italian restaurant. ( La Coppola) The pizzas there were so delicious!!!

nightlife Budapest - Gozsdu udvar (several bars to check out)

For our second day (Sunday) we planned a boat tour. Before, we went back to the shopping street and the market (both opened on Sunday – which is cool). We finally bought a “Baumkuchen” – you can choose between a lot of flavours (coconut, cinnamon, citrus and vanilla). It costs about 1000 HUF, which isn’t expensive at all. At the market, they made it fresh and you could see how it’s made. It was very tasty. We couldn’t eat all at once, so we basically had a delicious snack for our boat tour. The weather was perfect. In the beginning we had sunshine but then it got cloudy. BUT it didn’t rain, which was the most important thing . Afterwards, we went on the Gellértberg to get another beautiful view over the city.

...and coffee :)

On our last full day we went to Gellért Thermal Bath. It kind of disappointed us, because we are used to our thermal baths in Austria. The architecture is amazing but the swimming pools, hygiene and offers were disappointing. We expected a little bit more. Thank god, we also booked a massage – it was very relaxing!!
For dinner, we went to a restaurant called “Vintage Garden”. The atmosphere and decoration was absolutely amazing and beautiful. Exactly the decoration I love. The food was delicious and our dessert (Vintage Garden Chocolate Cake) was a brilliant ending.

restaurant: Vintage Garden
All in all, Budapest is a beautiful city. You can really see similarities between Budapest and Vienna, mostly in architecture and historical buildings. The prices (food, metro) are very fair compared to Vienna. The best way to get around and to see hidden beautiful places of the city is definitely walking. We've had beautiful, enjoyable and funny 3 days in Budapest. :)
